Health Insurance - Open Enrollment 2026
The Executive Board met with the compensation team on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. In the General Resources section, you will find the upcoming health insurance rates for 2026.
During the meeting, the Exec. Board posed questions, such as why rates have increased, if dental coverage will include buy-up plan options, and how can employees ask questions and request additional information. We also reiterated our concerns about the cost of our healthcare plan.
What we know:
Public Act 152 sets limits on how much a public employer (like a city, county, or school district) can pay for employee health insurance each year. These limits affect the total annual costs for employee benefits and factor into cost increases and/or adjustments.
Another reason for the increase is based on the number of claims employees had the previous year.
Our dental coverage will be similar to last year’s with no buy-up option (we inquired several times about adding this option but were denied based on the cost to the college).
If you have an HSA account with WEX you will need to use any remaining funds by December 31, 2025, or you will lose those funds. The new HSA provider will be NAVIA.
The college is utilizing the POOL again this year, based on the rates provided to the college (our 3-year contract with the POOL expired and the college opted to continue on a year-to-year basis). POOL Michigan Health Insurance
The college plans to look at other options for health care providers for 2027.
This information is an overview of what we learned during the meeting with the compensation team, the Benefit Guide will have more in-depth information regarding coverage and other benefits (pet insurance, buy-up-vision insurance).
Questions and concerns can be sent to the compensation team at compensation@hfcc.edu.
Open enrollment will run November 3rd through November 14th. The compensation team stated that they will send out a Benefits Guide at the beginning of next week. Jennifer Chapman will also be available in person for afternoon, and midnight shifts to assist with the enrollment process (Jennifer will send out her schedule availability).
We understand the frustrations with rising health care costs. While current benefits cannot be changed, please know the Executive Board remains committed to supporting you and advocating for fair solutions whenever possible.
